More about Asia
• The Asian continent has an area of 44.482.000 km². It is the biggest continent in the world with 29, 4% of the world's land area.
• It is also the most populous continent in the world with 3, 95 billion inhabitants (around 60% of the world population).
• The Asian market is expected to grow by 7-8% in 2010.
• Major farming activities in Asia are: rice, wheat, barley, corn and cereals in general, tobacco, tea, jute, cotton, pepper, rubber and livestock: swine, poultry and cattle.
• Asia is the third biggest market in the world regarding organic food consumption, with an annual growth of 15%. This currently represents a total of USD 3.5 billion.
• The wine consumption in Asia is growing seven times faster than the world average.
• Food and beverage demand in Asia should double until 2050, especially for meats, especially for meats, cereals and vegetables.

ICA ExpoCoop 2008. Portugal hosts the world’s biggest co-operative fair.
ICA ExpoCoop 2008, the first international event aimed at promoting business for the co-operative sector, took place in Lisbon from the 23rd to the 25th of October, 2008. According to organizers, the event attracted nearly 8,000 visitors.
Intended mainly for professionals of the sector, the fair promoted the growth of co-operative business, the practice of inter co-operation among participants, the implementation of strategic alliances and the creation of economical tools for co-operative with main focus on food, beverage and products.
The event also received thousands of non-professional visitors, who enjoyed the food, beverage and traditional products presented by co-operatives from more than 25 countries. There were Portuguese regional wines, Brazilian traditional beverages, a wide selection of coffees from Angola, teas from China, outstanding Italian cheese and fruits and fascinating spices from Iran and the Palestine, to name a few.
Besides the food sector, several co-operatives presented their countries’ cultural aspects or other sectors of their industry. Italy, for instance, displayed state-of-the-art furniture and crystal co-operative items. China, brought products made of recycling materials. Romania and other countries presented regional hand crafts.
