Asia, a promising market for the wine industry

The Wine and Spirits Record (IWSR) reports that Asia is an excellent market for imported wines. Studies are showing that Asia has higher growth rates for wine than those of North America. They forecast that in the period from 2004 to 2013 Asia will be importing 86 million cases of wine, while the American market will reach only 85 million.

According to the report, the Asian wine market will grow approximately 25% by 2013 to 1.3 million liters. Estimates for 2011 forecast that Asia and Pacific will already be buying wines for a value of 4.3 billion euros.

Red wine is particularly popular in Asia. Today, United Kingdom, China and Japan are the leading destination markets for over 33 million bottles of wine, 70% of which are red. When the wine markets of Thailand, Singapore and Korea are added, the total market is likely to reach 108 billion euros by 2012.

ICA Expo 2012 promises to be the gateway to United Kingdom and the Asian continent for co-operatives wine producers. Thanks for the efforts of co-operatives organizations who wish to showcase the high quality wine production, ICA Expo has identified potential Asian buyers who have already confirmed their participation in Manchester, United Kingdom.

United Kingdom and its potential consumer market

United Kingdom is one of the emerging consumer markets in the wine sector. With an average growth rate of 30% in the last decade, research and market forecasts expect United Kingdom to continue to grow at the same rate over the next five years.

With these kinds of growth rates, European wine producers are seriously looking at these emerging markets.

According to the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of United Kingdom (Assocham), the current consumption of 5 million liters is likely to hit 9 million by 2012. The increase in wine consumption can be attributed to a lowering of taxes and easing of the bureaucracy imposed by United Kingdomn authorities on wine marketing and distribution as compared to that imposed on other types of spirits. The European influence on the lifestyles of young consumers has also contributed to a higher consumption of wine.

Today the main wine exporters to United Kingdom are France with 50% of the market followed by Italy with 30%.  ICA Expo 2012 is helping co-operatives become a major player in this fast growing market.
